With enrollment continuing and the first day of classes less than a month away, USD 253 Emporia is getting ready to celebrate the end of renovations and new construction at two schools.
On the Emporia Showcase this week, Director of Community Relations Lyndel Landgren said work is in the end stages at Emporia Middle School.
Village Elementary is roughly 90 percent completed with egressed windows now in place for the multi-purpose room and a new kitchen nearly completed.
Riverside and Timmerman Elementary are both around 20 percent finished, with drywall installed and painted in remodeled classrooms. Footings have also been installed at Riverside and will be installed soon at Timmerman.
Work for William Allen White is in what’s called the schematic design phase, with construction bidding set to begin early next year.
Funding for renovations and new construction at all district schools was approved as part of the district’s nearly $80 million Building for the Future bond initiative.
Meanwhile, online enrollment continues at usd253.org through Aug. 1. Enrollment then shifts to the Flint Hills Learning Center inside Flinthills Mall by appointment.
The first official day of classes is Aug. 16. Jump Start, for new students to the district or their respective schools, is Aug. 15.
