One of Emporia’s most notable homegrown businesses celebrated the homegrown spirit in downtown Emporia Saturday morning.
ESB Financial and the Emporia Farmers’ Market welcomed residents to the annual Homegrown Celebration in the parking lot at Seventh and Merchant. The celebration included the 18th annual ESB watermelon contest which featured young residents rolling, eating and seed spitting locally grown watermelons.
ESB President and CEO Michael Black says they love getting to honor the work of local producers and bring more light to those individuals who ensure residents always have the freshest produce possible on their tables.
Farmers Market Director Trisha Fullerton says Homegrown is not only a great community event, its a very beneficial one for their vendors.
