After narrowly approving $600,000 in funding for the Olpe Fitness Park project earlier this month, the USD 252 Board of Education unanimously rescinded the same motion during a special meeting Monday evening.
The motion to “donate” $600,000 in funds to the project over the course of three years was approved 4-3 during the board’s July 12 meeting. According to Superintendent Ryan Muhlig Monday, the donation of district money to the Olpe Fitness Park Committee was not legally permitted, hence the motion to rescind was presented Monday night.
Board member Kevin Flott tells KVOE News the district will now look into alternate options and have more discussion come next month.
Plans are to bring the item back before the board during its next regular meeting. KVOE also sought comment from Board President Emily Darbyshire who declined.
Following adjournment of that meeting, board members reconvened for a work/study session for the purpose of outlining goals and objectives for Muhlig in his first year as superintendent. Muhlig tells KVOE News one of his main focuses for the coming year will be in maintaining the success the district has built both academically and community-wide.
The USD 252 Board of Education will reconvene for its monthly meeting in August.
