Sometimes it’s all about the timing.
Cloud cover Wednesday morning did nothing to keep the KVOE listening area from going above 100 degrees. The high temperature was 103 with a heat index as high as 108.
Cloud cover Thursday afternoon, however, kept Emporia’s high temperature at 95 with a peak heat index of 102.
Unfortunately, triple-digit heat is expected Friday and, as a result, excessive warnings are now in place for all area counties until 9 pm Saturday. Emporia could reach 103 for the air temperature Friday and 101 Saturday, and heat index readings could be as high as 104-111 areawide both days.
