The Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins Sunday afternoon, 2-1, to extend their winning streak to three games, the longest this season.
Freddy Fermin gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run. The Twins tied the game in the third before the Royals took the lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Maikel Garcia.
Ryan Yarbrough went seven innings allowing one run on seven hits and had five strikeouts.
Carlos Hernandez earned his first career save by having a scoreless ninth with a pair of strikeouts.
After the game, the Royals traded infielder Nicky Lopez to the Atlanta Braves. In exchange for Lopez, the Royals receive left-handed pitcher Taylor Hearn, who has been optioned to Omaha.
The Royals are off Monday before beginning a 3-game series Tuesday with the New York Mets. Zack Greinke is scheduled to start for the Royals.
