As the school year gets set to begin later this month, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Emporia State School of Business are reminding students to look into a still relatively new internship program that launched last fall.
Last year, the chamber and ESU teamed up to provide students with paid internships within the local community providing up to 150 hours of real job experience per semester. Emporia Area Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says the internships must pay at least $10 per hour and businesses will be reimbursed $5 per hour.
The program officially launched last fall with students eligible to apply beginning this past spring. McKenna tells KVOE News in just that short time, several local businesses became involved.
McKenna adds this is not only a great opportunity to gain needed experience ahead of graduation, it is also a chance to put a little extra money in their pocket.
The internship program officially launched last fall with students eligible to take part at the start of the spring semester. Students interested in taking advantage of the internship program need to contact Director of Internships Laticia Rust. For businesses interested in providing internship opportunities, contact the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce by calling 620-342-1600.
