Pioneer Bluffs is set to hold two Prairie Talks on Saturday.
The talks begin at 12:30 p.m. with Matt and Julia Anderson sharing their families’ stories. Following the Andersons at 1:30 p.m., the Patton/Johnson families will tell their story.
Pioneer Bluffs Executive Director Christie Reinhardt joined KVOE’s Morning Show Monday to preview the Prairie Talks. Reinhardt says the stories from the three families are important to learn from the past heading into the future.
Matt and Julia Anderson, along with their son and daughter-in-law manage their family ranch outside of Alma. The Andersons run an award-winning cow-calf operation, annually raising rough 500 head of Angus cattle from birth until the calves are one or two years old.
The Patton and Johnson families moved to Southern Chase County shortly after the Civil War. The Pattons settled east of Matfield Green, while the Johnsons settled west of Matfield Green. Both families farmed the fertile soil along the creeks and ranched in the rich land native tallgrass prairie pastures.
The event is free to attend but donations are appreciated to help support future programs. Reservations are requested but not required to ensure there are plenty of chairs available.
To reserve a spot, RSVP on the Pioneer Bluffs’ Facebook or contact Reinhardt at christie@pioneerbluffs.org or by calling (620) 753-3484.
