Agriculture exports are at high levels for Kansas, judging by the export total announced by Governor Laura Kelly on Tuesday.
Governor Kelly says the ag export total was nearly $5.5 billion last year, listed as the highest export total in decades. Kelly says Kansas reported $3.8 billion in ag exports when she took office in 2019.
The top export was red meat, totaling $2.1 billion and comprising nearly 40 percent of all the state’s ag exports. Cereals, including corn, wheat and sorghum, were second at nearly 25 percent of the total, followed by oilseeds — mostly beans — at 12.5 percent.
Mexico was the state’s largest trade partner, importing almost $2.2 billion of Kansas ag products or just short of 40 percent of the state total. Japan was second at $781 million, followed by Canada at nearly $600 million.
