The scope of repairs at Emporia’s Ninth and West intersection continues to expand after a water main break last week.
The intersection has been closed since the break was reported Aug. 8, and the city now says it could well be closed through next week. Work is underway to replace a fitting and around 20 feet of pipe, meaning possible service interruptions again for nearby residents. The city says affected citizens have been notified with special doorknob-hanging flyers.
The city has already replaced several fittings and feet of pipe either at or near the intersection. It has also installed new valves to help isolate sections of waterline with the goal of preventing leaks or reducing resident impact in the case of future water main breaks.
