Within the next six weeks, or within the next five months, repaving could well begin for a pair of parking areas in downtown Emporia.
The parking lots in the 600 and 700 block of Mechanic are set for improvements. The project bid date should take place before the end of August, with construction possibly starting anywhere from late September to mid-January. The goal is to have all the work done by late May 2024, or before the Unbound Gravel slate of activities, but construction could be done by late April.
The city says its paving contractor can only work on one parking lot at a time, so any fall construction will have to finish before a shutdown this upcoming winter.
