Services are taking place this weekend for Strong City native and local bank executive Joseph Stout.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7 pm Friday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Services will be at 10 am Saturday at Flint Hills Community Church, with Pastor Garen Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow at Bazaar Cemetery.
Stout passed away Monday at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was 78.
Stout followed graduation from Kansas State University with a position at Fourth National Bank in Wichita. He later came to Emporia in the early 1980s to lead Citizens National Bank.
Stout was also busy with work on numerous boards, and retired ESB Financial bank executive Ken Buchele (BYOO-klee) says that was just the way Stout was.
Stout’s community work included Flint Hills Technical College Foundation, Emporia State University Foundation, Camp Wood YMCA Board of Directors, Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Board, Emporia Rotary Club, Emporia Theatre Guild, Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, Flint Hills Community Church and South Fork Watershed District. Stout served as a drive chair for the Lyon County United Way and was a volunteer of the year for the Chamber.
