CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness says a new challenge grant opportunity will go a long way towards finishing out its over $5 million fundraising effort, “Breaking Stigma, Breaking Ground.”
CrossWinds has secured a $500,000 grant from the JE and LE Mabee Foundation — provided it can raise just over $800,000 from private citizens, businesses and philanthropic organizations by July 11, 2024.
This follows several major donations, including almost $2.4 million from the WS and EC Jones Testamentary Trust, a $750,000 grant from the Sunderland Foundation and tax credits from the state of Kansas.
All funding goes to create a campus-style hub for mental health services just west of Emporia State University. Phase One renovations are underway on the Sauder Family Center, formerly known as the Earl Center, while fundraising continues to complete work at the former Chi Omega building, 1519 Merchant. The Chi Omega building will be used for administration offices, community training, mental health crisis response and adult therapy services. The Earl Center, meanwhile, will house programs, including work for children, as well as the therapeutic preschool, emergency services, a medication clinic and pharmacy.
