It’s been a busy summer and first week of practice for the Emporia High boys soccer team.
Emporia High completed its first week of practice Saturday night with an intrasquad scrimmage. The Spartans were 15-3 last year falling in a Class 5A regional championship match against Andover. Emporia High also graduated 11 seniors off that team.
Even with losing 11 seniors, coach Victor Ibarra likes the group he has for this season.
Zander Keosybounheaung is one of eight seniors on the team. He says he’s excited for another season.
Emporia High was scheduled to travel to Chanute for a jamboree on Tuesday but it has been canceled due to excessive heat. The Spartans begin the season with a three-game homestand beginning with a match against Shawnee Heights at 8 p.m. Friday. Emporia High will also host Seaman and Maize South before traveling to the Titan Classic.
