Two notable steps have recently taken place for the SOS Child Advocacy Center.
SOS has announced the Child Advocacy Center has received reaccreditation from the National Children’s Alliance after an application and site review process. Reaccreditation is a five-year process, and SOS Executive Director Connie Cahoone says reaccreditation is important because it validates the agency’s dedication to child abuse intervention and prevention whole offering “consistency across the Children’s Advocacy Center movement as a whole.”
Also, SOS reopened its Child Advocacy Center in Burlington last week after it was closed three years ago. CAC Director Allyson Vandiver says the new facility will expand on work done in Emporia for years.
Vandiver and Family Advocate Ginny Samples are splitting their time between the Emporia and Burlington locations after Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Regardless of the location, the CAC receives referrals from the Kansas Department for Children and Families and local law enforcement for forensic interviews. Staffers are also part of multidisciplinary teams to focus on prevention, investigation and, in some cases, prosecution in cases of child abuse and/or neglect.
