Early work is getting rolling on a major street improvement project in east Emporia.
The city says the annual City Connecting Link Improvement Program, or CCLIP, is beginning Monday. Officially, this involves US Highway 50 from Mechanic to the east city limits, but City Engineer Jim Ubert says there are two work zones — one between Mechanic Street and the viaduct and the other from Corinth to the city limits. Besides asphalt milling and overlay for both zones, the full-depth repairs from Corinth to the east mean one-lane traffic, flaggers and a pilot car will be used for that project zone.
The tentative plan has work lasting through October, weather permitting. Drivers are asked to follow all traffic control as posted and use alternate routes if at all possible during the project.
