All six defendants in the Jesus Avila murder from 2017 have now either been sentenced or scheduled for sentencing.
Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde entered no-contest pleas to single counts of aggravated robbery and interference with law enforcement as part of a hearing in Lyon County District Court Monday afternoon. Judge Lee Fowler found Cornejo-Campoverde guilty of both counts and set sentencing for 9 am November 15.
Additional counts including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and arson were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Cornejo-Campoverde is one of six defendants in the 2017 murder of Avila, and before Monday was the only one to have not been sentenced or set for sentencing. Earlier this month, Samuel Garcia was sentenced to over 50 years in prison on counts of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. Last year, Armando Nunez began serving a nearly four-year sentence for attempted burglary of a vehicle, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.
Last Monday, Jovan Pecina and Andrew Granado pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, while Alan Alanis announced pleas of guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and arson. He also pleaded no contest to aggravated robbery.
Cornejo-Campoverde faces up to 247 months in prison on the aggravated robbery count as well as a fine of up to $300,000. He also faces up to 23 months on the interference with law enforcement count and a fine not exceeding $100,000.
