The extreme heat from last week did little to hinder operations for Emporia’s Rescue Mission.
That’s according to Director Lee Alderman, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, who says operations were “relatively normal” for both Shiloh Home of Hope and Abundant Harvest. Alderman says residents should bare in mind, however, that “normal” operations for Abundant Harvest means they are still giving away “a lot” of food on a weekly basis.
Thankfully, Alderman says the need for food is not a great one thanks to the many partnerships, old and new, the mission has developed in recent months.
As for the men’s mission, Alderman says operations were also largely unaffected, however, the shelter’s occupancy did increase as they took in a few men to get them out of the hot conditions. Alderman says while they want to “give them a break” inviting people in to escape the harsh conditions can be somewhat risky.
Alderman says this adds more stress to staff who have to monitor the situation to ensure no incidents arise. Thankfully he says they have plenty of ways to do so.
