Extreme drought is covering a bit more ground than it did last week.
In the latest weekly update from the US Drought Monitor, extreme drought expanded east to cover all of Chase County and nose into far western Lyon County near Plymouth. Extreme drought also moved slightly closer to Hartford in southeast Lyon County and now covers the southwest half of Morris County. Much of Coffey and most of Greenwood counties are covered by extreme drought.
Severe drought covers most of Lyon County, as well as much of Coffey, Morris and Osage counties. Moderate drought is along and north of a line from Eskridge to Allen to Osage City.
