With Halfway to Everywhere 2023 now in the books, planning is already underway for Halfway 2024.
Lead Organizer Hank Osterhout, a guest of KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday, was asked if he has any bands already in mind for next year’s festival to which he replied:
Osterhout would tell KVOE News he was very pleased with the turnout for this past weekend’s festival noting that attendance was somewhat lower than 2022, however, he still sees the desire from the community and the potential for future growth. That being said, Osterhout noted that this year’s festival would be the final year the event will be completely free to the public.
When asked why, Osterhout stated there were two key reasons, capacity and sustainability. He explains that despite great sponsorships from community businesses and organizations, in order for the event to grow they will have to start charging a small fee in the future.
An exact amount hasn’t been named, but Osterhout says it could be close to $10, which he says is a bargain when you consider the number of performances you get to experience at Halfway.
Osterhout also noted that during his final walk of the festival site on Sunday, he had a thought. He tells KVOE News, “For as much time as it takes to build the site and tear it down, I think it needs to stay up longer.”
Osterhout says he doesn’t know exactly what that means just yet, but believes there is potential for expanding the event over a longer period. Saturday’s festival saw nearly 30 performers take to five stages across the downtown corridor through Midnight.
