Rolling road blocks are taking place on the Kansas Turnpike northeast of Emporia on Thursday.
Turnpike Authority crews are installing gantries as part of its ongoing push towards cashless tolling all along the highway. The KTA has been raising several bridges along the highway for several years now, with a goal of having complete cashless tolling next year.
Thursday work will take place between mile marker 136, nine miles northeast of the Emporia exit, and milepost 146, a mile south of the Admire-Council Grove toll plaza. Speeds will be reduced to 65 mph during this process.
This work comes as the Turnpike Authority is in the middle of its annual customer satisfaction survey, which has led to improvements like electric vehicle charging stations and the current push to cashless tolling. Click here to take part.
