Already with a recovery residence in Emporia for women, Empower House Ministries is now working to use significant grant funding to set up a facility for men.
Executive Director Melissa Landis unveiled the plan on KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday.
The exact addresses for the men’s and women’s homes are not being announced, but Landis says the women’s home is near Ninth and Prairie and the men’s home is near 12th and Rural. She also says capacity for the men’s facility will be nine so as not to need a rezoning effort.
The $200,000 comes from the Kansas Attorney General’s Kansas Fights Addiction Grant Review Board. Grants are funded through opioid legal settlements as recovered by the Attorney General’s Office. Funding is specifically earmarked towards combating the state’s fentanyl epidemic.
Besides starting the process for the men’s recovery house, Landis says the funding will also help Empower House with “major program improvements” at the women’s house as well. Empower House offers stable housing — possibly up to 18 months — as well as access to mental health services, workforce resources, addiction treatment and finances.
