For two decades now, Emporia’s Central Care Cancer Center has been providing the highest quality of care to its patients and leadership do not plan to slow down in that endeavor anytime soon.
During a 20th anniversary celebration Wednesday afternoon, Central Care President and Radiation Oncologist Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo and CEO Alfredo Lopez sat down with KVOE to discuss the center’s history. While in Emporia for the last 20 years, Dr. Perez-Tamayo says Central Care’s presence in Kansas began 30 years ago with a center in Newton.
She says the move to Emporia came as a way to add more resources to the center’s repertoire and enhance the level of care it can provide to its patients.
Dr. Perez-Tamayo says while it may not have all of the amenities of larger metropolitan care facilities, the center’s location in Emporia means local patients do not have to travel as far for treatments reducing both physical and financial strain. Lopez adds that the center is constantly evolving to keep up with the ever-changing landscape that is cancer research and treatment.
When it comes to sustaining the success and quality of care the center has become known for, Dr. Perez-Tamayo says a combination of continued research and staff growth will be the key to continuing the center’s success for the years to come.
