Court processes are underway for an Emporia man accused of aggravated assault as part of a crash near Emporia from this past weekend.
Phillip Scott Lieurance, 35, faces single counts of aggravated assault, flee and elude and reckless driving after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike near the Emporia service exit Sunday night. Highway Patrol troopers also say Lieurance hit the second SUV several times before the wreck. Six people, Lieurance included, were all treated at Newman Regional Health and released.
Lieurance is accused of using his SUV to assault Nickolai Christensen-Thomsen. Besides allegdly fleeing from law enforcement, Lieurance is also accused of using his SUV to damage another SUV and then essentially failing to stop and provide his driver’s registration or other information to James Merrill Gardner, the owner of the second SUV.
Lieurance’s preliminary hearing is Nov. 6 before Judge Doug Jones.
