At the end of the month, local residents are encouraged to gather at the site of one of Emporia’s most well-known historical landmarks.
The Soden’s Bridge Preservation Society has special activities set from 4-7:30 pm Sept. 30, including food trucks and entertainment for all ages. In addition, there will be more information about efforts to preserve the bridge, including city plans and private efforts to fund needed repairs.
The bridge is a Marsh Arch design and was completed in 1923. It’s the oldest-dated Rainbow Arch bridge in Kansas and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Organizers of the event and the private funding efforts will be on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Sept. 29.
