Operations are back up and running following a water line break that took the Lee Beran Recreation Center offline for a time last weekend.
According to Rec Director Tom McEvoy, the ERC coordinated with the City of Emporia to make a “temporary” repair to the line. He tells KVOE News more work is set to come “later down the line.”
The break came in the same week that the ERC approved its recommendation for potentially funding the construction of a new recreation center. As part of that recommendation, the ERC is asking the current center remain in use in some capacity.
KVOE asked McEvoy if updates to Lee Beran’s underground infrastructure would be part of the construction process to which he stated updates are likely but he cannot speak to the full scope. He added that with the construction of a new facility, plans are to install a new indoor aquatic center which would likely mean the removal of the indoor pool at LBRC and less stress on the center’s infrastructure as a whole.
Currently, the ERC is not planning to alter the center’s schedule any further following Friday’s break, however, McEvoy says the center could be closed once permanent repairs begin. For more information find the Lee Beran Recreation Center on Facebook or visit EmporiaRec.org.
