The investigation continues, but the identities of the two people found dead after a destructive house fire nearly a week ago are now known.
Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope has confirmed information from Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home saying Lee Roy “Heavy” Phillips and his wife, Mary Ann, were found as investigators combed through the wreckage at 1993 Road G early Friday. Lee Roy Phillips was 88. Mary Ann Phillips was 85.
A memorial service has been announced for 10:30 am Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with visitation from 6-8 pm Friday at Cottonwood Friends Church of Emporia.
The investigation continues into how the fire started and any relationship to the Phillips’ deaths. Lyon County deputies, Emporia Fire and the Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal are collaborating.
