A record milestone happened on Thursday for Emporia High senior Alexa Shivley.
Shivley recorded her 1,000th career assist during the Lady Spartans’ match against Ottawa.
Even though a milestone was accomplished, Ottawa snapped Emporia High’s 14-game winning streak in a five-set thriller (25-16, 25-19, 15-25, 18-25, 18-16).
Shivley says she couldn’t accomplished the feat without the teammates around her.
Coach Ping Wang says she’s proud of the way the Lady Spartans rallied, but the slow start was pivotal in the match.
Emporia High is now 17-2 on the season. The Lady Spartans will compete in the Centennial League Tournament on Saturday in Manhattan.
