Emporia High sophomore Kali Keough is a Centennial League champion.
On Monday at the Kossover Tennis Complex in Topeka, Keough won the league championship in singles play with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Washburn Rural’s Carolina Chedzoy. Keough defeated Madeline Deters of Topeka High in her first match, 8-5 and defeated Hayden’s Grace Funk in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-2.
The doubles team of Peyton Chanley and Kinsley Heins finished sixth. The doubles team of Ashlynn Foraker and Darian Chadwick finished seventh.
Senior Danika Williams went 0-3 on the day and finished 12th in singles.
As a team, Emporia High finished in a tie for second with Manhattan, who also recorded 26 team points. Washburn Rural claimed the league championship.
Emporia High will travel to Salina for regionals on Saturday to be held at Salina Central. The top 6 finishers in the regional in both singles and doubles will qualify for state which will be held Oct. 13-14 at the Salina Tennis Center in Salina.
