After missing expectations in August, the state’s tax collections went back above projections for September.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says September totals were just under $992 million, over 4 percent above estimates and over 3 percent above numbers for September 2022. Corporate collections were the main driver, listed at $261.5 million — over 30 percent more than estimates and up almost 55 percent from last year. Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts, $305.1 million, were almost 2 percent more than estimates but down 1.4 percent from last year.
Individual income tax collections, typically the strongest category, were actually almost 6 percent below estimates and down over 11 percent from September 2022.
