The Emporia State volleyball team drilled 11 service aces on the way to a 25-17, 27-25, 25-17 victory over Newman on Saturday at White Auditorium. The Lady Hornets sizzled in the first set hitting .378 with 14 kills and no attack errors on the way to .330 hitting for the match with just seven total attack errors. The Jets fought back in the second hitting .333 to force extra points but the Lady Hornets held on to lead 2-0. ESU wrapped up the match with a 7-2 run to end the third set. Junior outside hitter Sandora Sasaki nailed 18 kills to register double-digit terminations for the 18th straight match to open her Lady Hornet career. Setter Brailee Bogle is enjoying her teammate’s success.
Bogle finished with a match-high five aces and 25 assists. Sasaki said she’s a big Brailee Bogle fan.
Head coach Ken Murczek said the team met its goal of having a low error match.
ESU moves to 9-9 on the season and 3-7 in the MIAA. The Jets fall to 0-18, 0-10 inside ‘The Association.’ ESU returns to action on the road Tuesday night at Fort Hays State. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
