Work continues on the Emporia Public Schools Building for the Future bond package, but there’s not much construction overall that’s left.
Work is nearing the end at Emporia Middle School, Riverside and Timmerman. Design work is nearing completion — perhaps as soon as the end of October — at William Allen White, and construction could begin by spring 2024.
On KVOE’s monthly USD 253 Showcase on Tuesday, McCownGordon Project Executive Eric Woltje says there were two major goals with the design for each school: enhance safety and security and augment the learning environment.
Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder says board members have been impressed with the renovations, including a tour of Emporia Middle School on Monday.
The nearly $80 million Building for the Future bond initiative supporting the construction was approved by voters in 2019. Construction began in 2020 and is now finished at Walnut, Emporia High, Logan Avenue and Village.
