The crack of shotgun shells rang loud and clear during the Gary Fuller Memorial Shootout at the Fuller farmstead northeast of Emporia on Saturday.
With the number of participants, either in the shootout itself or the silent auction, organizer Lisa Fuller says her late husband would be proud of the event and its growth.
Gary Fuller was killed as part of a tree incident nine years ago. Lisa Fuller says the event has grown because it fits the family — and it has connected other people to the family since it started.
Proceeds will help the Fuller family fund scholarships for 4-H students. The Fullers gave away nine scholarships this weekend, representing students graduating last year and this year — and $4,500 in total funds coming from the shootout.
