To say the least, organizers of the St Mark’s Lutheran Church Oktoberfest event Sunday — including Vicky Lyon — were more than pleased with how things went.
Residents had their choice of meatballs, bratwursts or hot dogs, as well as sauerkraut, green bean dumpling soup, beans, hot German potato salad and a choice of desserts. Besides the range of German food available, attendees could enter into a raffle for various items and they could also take advantage of a pie cupboard. Bierocks were also available for sale.
Planning started in August, and Lyon says Oktoberfest will likely return to the community calendar next year. She says Oktoberfest is a great outreach event for St. Mark’s.
Food left from Oktoberfest will go to nonprofits locally including the Emporia Rescue Mission and Shiloh Home of Hope.
