The US Drought Monitor map didn’t move from the past several weeks, but it also didn’t account for at least some of the heavy rainfall reported across the KVOE listening area this week.
Residents received anywhere from 1.5 to nearly a foot of rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday. Much — and in many cases, most — of that rain came after the weekly data collection deadline Tuesday
Extreme drought is now covering virtually all of Chase and Coffey counties, northwest and south Lyon County south of Interstate 35 and US Highway 50, most of Greenwood and Morris counties, southeast Osage and western Wabaunsee counties.
Moderate to severe drought now covers most of Lyon, Osage and Wabaunsee counties, as well as western Chase and Morris counties.
Pockets of exceptional drought, the worst level on the scale, remain in central Chase and north Greenwood counties.
Before the hefty rain totals this week, the area had been dry since light rainfall Oct. 4.
