The Emporia High boys soccer fell in a shootout in a regional championship game to Newton Thursday night.
Newton defeated Emporia High 4-3 and won the shootout, 3-2.
Emporia High fell down 2-0 before senior Alex Mosiman scored on a penalty kick with three seconds remaining in the first half.
Newton took a 3-1 lead with 29 minutes to play, but the Spartans rallied back. Sophomore Kevin Magana made it 3-2 with 14 minutes left and Mosiman scored the equalizer with 10 minutes remaining.
Neither team scored in four overtimes with the game ending in a shootout.
Emporia High finishes its season with a 10-8 record and graduates nine seniors.
