The Emporia State volleyball team tied the match at a set apiece but couldn’t maintain their momentum in a 26-24, 23-25, 25-14, 25-8 loss at Missouri Western at the MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday night. After splitting two tight sets, the Western defense ratcheted up the pressure defensively in sets three and four and held the Hornets to just 13 kills combined while forcing 12 attack errors over the final two sets. Junior outside hitter Sandora Sasaki scored 18 kills for E-State but had to take 76 swings to do so and hit just .092 as the Lady Hornets hit just .104 as a team. Anakaren Chavez paced the back line defensively with 20 digs. ESU falls to 11-12 overall and 5-10 in the MIAA. The Lady Hornets try to end a three-game losing streak at the end of their three-game road trip Saturday by visiting Northwest Missouri. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
