Emporia Fire and EMS responded to a pair of vehicle accidents in a roughly 30-minute span Saturday afternoon.
The first accident was reported around 4 pm at mile marker 128 on Interstate 35. According to Emporia Fire, the accident involved a single vehicle with one occupant who did not require a trip to the hospital.
The second accident occurred roughly 30 minutes later on the Kansas Turnpike at mile marker 130 southbound, near the Emporia tollgate, involving two vehicles. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2019 Chevy Tahoe driven by 87-year-old William Hanna and 2014 Hyun Genesis driven by 26-year-old Chad Armstrong were both traveling southbound when the Hanna Chevy rear-ended the Armstrong Genesis. The collision caused Armstrong’s vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a barrier wall.
The Hanna Tahoe ran off the roadway to the right and struck a post, entered an embankment and struck a wire fence. Armstrong was listed with suspected minor injuries while Hanna was apparently unharmed.
Neither individual were transported to a hospital following the accident.
