Trick-or-treaters of all ages got a head start on collecting candy several days before Halloween on Saturday.
Emporia Main Street held its trick-or-treating event where community members could show off their Halloween costumes, visit downtown and its businesses and get some candy in the process.
Emporia Main Street Community Development Coordinator Jessica Buccholz says having the trick-or-treating event is one of their favorite events of the year. Buccholz says it’s important for community members to get to visit downtown and support local businesses.
The trick-or-treating event occurred during Dia de los Muertos festivities also in downtown Emporia. Buccholz says it’s great to have both activities going on at the same time.
Emporia Main Street also held a costume contest along with the trick-or-treating event. Downtown businesses are also participating in a window decorating contest which ends on Monday.
