Now six weeks into his new role, new Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Dennis Applegate joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss his new position and plans for the future.
Applegate comes to Lyon County Public Health after 25 years in pre-hospital emergency management and holds both EMT and paramedic certifications as well as a Bachelor’s degree in emergency management. At this time, he says relationship-building with the local community is one of his top priorities.
While speaking with KVOE Monday morning, Applegate noted there has been an uptick in COVID-19 cases within Lyon County as of late. He says the increase in COVID activity is to be expected thanks to a few different factors.
Flu traffic is still relatively low according to Applegate which he says is also to be expected as we are still in the early days of flu season.
Applegate began his duties on September 11 and replaces former Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Milbern.
