There is a lot ahead for Emporia city commissioners with their action and study meetings Wednesday.
The action meeting begins at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. Commissioners will have a public hearing to establish a Community Improvement District for the Fairview Hotels project at 3010 Eaglecrest, the site of the former Cracker Barrel and Montana Mike’s restaurants. They could also pass an ordinance to that effect after the public hearing.
Commissioners could also award bids for the fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2026 City Connecting Link Improvement projects. Fiscal 2025 will be a mill and overlay project involving Commercial Street from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks south to Kansas Avenue, as well as Merchant from 12th north to Interstate 35. The fiscal 2026 project involves geometric improvements on Commercial from Kansas Avenue south to Soden’s Grove.
Other action meeting business includes a resolution to adopt the Governing Body Handbook and different building codes.
For the study meeting, which immediately follows in City Conference Room 1 AB, commissioners will get a water update. They will also discuss appointments to Emporia Enterprises and the Regional Development Association. There will also be discussions about extending the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization area and procedures for boards and commissions.
