The Emporia State men’s basketball team outscored Virginia Union 27-9 from outside the arc on the way to a 72-59 victory over the Panthers in their second game at the SCB Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Fla. Sunday night. The Hornets started fast on a 10-2 run to begin the game, but the Panthers knotted it at 10. The teams played within a basket for the next 8 minutes of the half until the Hornets went on a 21-7 run to take a 13 point lead just before halftime and lead 40-29 at the break. Virginia Union cut the deficit as close as 8 in the second half but could not get closer. Alijah Comithier led the Hornets with 20 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Owen Long scored 17. The Hornets open up their home schedule Friday in the MIAA/GAC Challenge against Arkansas Tech Friday.
