While it may not have been cold, damp and drury, Tuesday was still a great day for Lyon County residents to tuck into a nice warm bowl of soup and tuck in they did.
Hundreds of residents passed through the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building to either dine in or pick up a bowl of soup courtesy of the Emporia Farmers Market’s annual Soup-a-Palooza fundraiser. The fundraiser included five soups on the menu all of which were made with local ingredients from Farmer’s Market vendors.
Also having a hand in constructing most of the soups was “soup maker extraordinaire” Wanda Myers. Myers, a market vendor for the last decade-plus, says she enjoys being involved with Soup-a-Palooza calling it a “great social event.”
Myers says in recent years she has seen an uptick in younger residents frequenting the market. She says this is a great opportunity to help teach local youth where their food comes from.
Fundraising totals from Soup-a-Palooza are currently pending.
