The end of the first week of practices for the Emporia High basketball teams concluded with “Meet The Spartans” Friday night at Spartan Gymnasium.
The event included a 3-point shooting contest, Money Basket, and stations where youth teams could interact with current members of each program.
Emporia High boys basketball coach Lee Baldwin says in his 11 years as a head coach, 2nd at Emporia High, there’s never been an event he’s been a part of.
Senior Sheldon Stewart says the turnout for the event was great.
Emporia High girls basketball coach Carolyn Dorsey says community support is big for both programs.
Senior Lexsey Dewitt says it’s incredible to get the support before the season kicks off.
Admission to the event was non-perishable food items that will go to Spartan Stop.
Emporia High will host Ottawa in its season opener on December 1.
