Jobless rates held nearly steady from September to October in Kansas, according to Labor Department economist Emilie Doerksen.
The 2.9 percent rate in October was just under the 3 percent rate for October 2022.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate climbed slightly, from 2.7 to 2.9 percent. Lyon County’s rate went from 2.6 to 2.8 percent.
Areawide, all area counties saw slight jobless rate increases. Lyon County is now tied with Chase County for the lowest jobless rate in the KVOE listening area, and Osage County is also under 3 percent unemployment at 2.9 percent. Coffey County has the highest unemployment areawide at 3.6 percent.
