The Emporia State women’s basketball team used a late second quarter run to provide separation in a 66-57 victory over Bellevue at White Auditorium in Emporia Saturday night. The Lady Hornets and Bruins were tied at 15 through one period and led 22-19 with 6:00 to play in the half. The Black & Gold went into lockdown mode and ended the half on a 13-2 run including 11-straight points to end the half up 32-24. BU got as close as seven points twice in the third quarter and twice in the fourth quarter but could never cut it to a two-score game. Graduate forward Queen Ulabo picked up her first double-double with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds while Faith Paramore added 13 points and Allie Ostermann scored a career-high 12 points on four 3-pointers. Head Coach Brian Ostermann said it was great for the team to pick up its first win.
Ulabo said that she felt that she was just doing what is expected of her.
E-State moves to 1-2 on the season with the win. The Lady Hornets are off until November 25 when they hit the road to take on Wayne State College. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
