There will be a new standard license plate design for Kansans next year.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly revealed the new design and color scheme Wednesday. Kelly says the new design uses a “wheat-yellow color in the background with black and midnight blue text.” The new plate also references the state motto, “ad astra per aspera,” with “to the stars” on the bottom of the tag.
The new tags will be available for drivers by spring 2024.
The new tag also continues the state’s push away from the long-used embossing process for plates. The state says the current design, a white background with light blue accents and the state’s great seal, have become hard to read due to fading ink.
The Kansas Department of Revenue says vehicle owners who update their registration through February will get the current tag design on flat, print-on-demand plates. Drivers updating their registration from March to December 2024 will get the new design on the flat, print-on-demand tags.
