The Emporia State women’s soccer team will have some personnel adjustments for its Sweet Sixteen NCAA Tournament game against archrival Washburn this week.
ESU Athletics says an unspecified number of players violated the school’s student-athlete code of conduct as outlined in the department’s Student-Athlete Handbook. As a result, those players will be sanctioned through the use of reduced playing time. The violations have not been specified.
Also, head coach Bryan Sailer has been placed on paid administrative leave and is not traveling with the team for Friday’s game in Ashland, Ohio. Chloe Marquez, a second-year assistant under Sailer and a former Emporia State soccer player under Sailer, will serve as interim head coach.
ESU Athletics says the department is “committed to the high standards and integrity of its program and holds student-athletes, coaches and staff accountable to its established policies. The team has a history of high performance both on and off the field but remains responsible for the consequences of recent actions.”
Blake Cripps will have more in his sports on KVOE and KVOE.com.
