The first winter sports competition for Emporia High takes place on Thursday.
The Emporia High boys swim and diving team will be hosting an invitational.
Emporia High has four swimmers back that qualified for state including Logan Woydziak, Ian Navarro, Tyler Luthi and Shane Anderson. The Spartans also return diver Alex Allemang.
Coach Jamie Dawson says the Spartans will be a mixture of young and veteran swimmers.
Woydziak says his offseason workouts hope to pay off this winter.
Allemang says his ultimate goal is to get to state but wants to see how this first meet goes.
Diving begins at 1:30 p.m. with the swim events to begin at 4 p.m. at Emporia High School.
