The annual Salvation Army of Emporia Red Kettle Campaign is nearly halfway complete and donations are still needed to reach this year’s fundraising goal.
During an update on KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday, Salvation Army Captain Mylie Hadden announced the campaign has managed to raise around $8,000 in its first 14 days with a goal of $40,000. With the slow turnout thus far, Hadden says she has drafted a letter seeking additional partnerships with local businesses to help bolster donations through $1,000 sponsorships.
Hadden adds they are also low on bell ringers at this time meaning a lot of unmanned kettles throughout the week.
While turnout has been slow to start, Hadden is confident two of the campaign’s major fundraising days, both of which are coming this week, should help to boost those numbers starting with Real Estate Wednesday.
Following Real Estate Wednesday will be the annual Badges United Bell Ringing event Saturday morning. Emporia Police, Emporia Fire and Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies will be manning kettles from 8 am to noon at both Walmart and Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply.
If you are unable to donate during either of these events, donations are accepted daily through the end of the month at the following locations:
Walmart
Country Mart
Dillons
Bluestem
Goods
Hobby Lobby
Flint Hills Mall
