With the calendar year approaching an end soon, the Emporia Rescue Mission continues to be busy supporting the needs of the local community which have been apparent throughout the year.
This includes providing shelter and services through both the men’s shelter and Shiloh Home of Hope which Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman says are at a high level of occupancy at this time. Specifically, the men’s shelter is at capacity with all 15 beds occupied.
Alderman tells KVOE News this has been the case for the past several months.
Shiloh representative Maryanne Graves says there is one space still available at Shiloh, however, she does not expect it will be available for long as they are fielding calls from potential residents on a near daily basis. The busy pace comes as the rescue mission recently held its annual Christmas Pajamas and Pancakes event at the Bowyer Community Building this past Wednesday.
The event was open to families who utilize the mission’s pregnancy center and Graves says the event was well attended with more than 40 families taking part. Graves says this is only a fraction of the number of individuals they have served this year.
Alderman stated Friday that when individuals come to the rescue mission for assistance, they start with a clean slate noting they are not about judging others but rather building them up as many of their clients are at or recovering from rock bottom. With that in mind, Alderman encouraged local residents to help in this support by donating to the mission either through clothing for the men’s shelter, over-the-counter medications or monetary donations.
